The Deaprtment of Industrial Relations offers free consultations to qualifying food operations, looking at issues at your workplace, providing information and  developing action plans.  Click here for more information.

 

Education Queensland has Occupational Health and Safety Consultants offering services to schools.  Although canteens are generally run by the P&C, they may be available to provide risk assessments.  Enquire via your school's administration office.

 

Prevalent risks include:

  • Inadequate passageway clearance
  • Inadequate shelving
  • Inappropriate positioning of power points (relative to sinks and other equipment)
  • Young children of volunteers during operating times
  • Walk in refrigerators and adequate emergency exits
  • Lack of electrical safety switches
  • Lack of adequate workplace safety and fire training
